Don’t be too timid and squeamish about your actions. All life is an experiment. The more experiments you make the better.

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Take those first steps. Don’t let fear of the unknown paralyze you. Just begin. And each step won’t seem so frightening.

MOTIVATION: think outside the gym.
Let go of what you think counts as a so-called “workout.”
Throw out any definition you have. Open your mind. Think big. Think outside the gym. Break free of what you’ve always done. That workout you have to drag yourself to kicking and screaming and hate so much you often skip? Ditch it. A workout doesn’t have to take place in a gym or even a class. It doesn’t have to be a 7 mile run. It doesn’t have to include spandex leggings or $200 hi-tech running shoes. It does, however, need to make you work up a sweat and get your heart pumping. Quite literally it needs to move your booty. Take those words literally and truly move your booty ANY WAY you like. And while you’re at it, make it awesome. Make it social. Make it fun. Any workout that does anything less than inspire you and leaving you feeling like you could take on the world shouldn’t be given the time of day. Your time is too precious, your life is too short. A workout shouldn’t beat you down, it should lift you up. You hold the power to seek out that workout that takes you to the next level. Don’t wait for it to find you because it may not. Seek it out! Fitness is YOUR time. Make it awesome.
Don’t just join a gym. Join a MOVEMENT. Don’t just workout. MOVE YOUR BOOTY®! Don’t just survive. THRIVE.
Any way, any how. Just keep moving. #moveyourbooty

dailyMYB: EVERYBODY’S GOT THAT THING.
You know, that THING that you talk about all the time—but have written off as impossible.
Runners who run and might say, “I could NEVER do a half marathon or marathon.” Swimmers who say, “Triathletes are crazy!” Weightlifters who think “CroffFit is NUTS!” Even walkers who say, “No, I’m not a RUNNER.”
Think, for a moment, why exactly we’ve pinpointed those specific activities? If they’re so impossible and out of the question, why do they sit in the back of our mind for months, What are they waiting for exactly? Why don’t they go away? The answer? Perhaps we don’t want them to go away. Perhaps we want to conquer them.
Be honest. What do you REALLY want to accomplish? Throw away all pre-conceived notions about what you are and are not capable of. The only person who believes that is YOU. Ask yourself: COULD YOU ACCOMPLISH THE IMPOSSIBLE?
For me, it’s things like a triathlon or CrossFit that sit in the back of my mind not budging. These are things I’ve yet to truly chase. And apparently, they’re not going to leave me alone until I do.
What do you want to chase? What fear or dream seems so impossible you just might try them? Where do you want to go that you’re not allowed to yet? Chase it all. They’re the things that will truly be worth the journey.

dailyMYB: WELCOME TO MYB NATION.
In MYBnation, we SWEAT BETTER when we SWEAT TOGETHER.
MYBnation is a community of people who know that we’re all one great sweat away from our best selves. Between all of life’s ups and downs, fitness is a place all our own. It’s a place we can play, focus, achieve, dream, perform and experiment. No one tells us we can’t, we don’t have enough credits, experience, talent or skill. When it comes to fitness, we are EXACTLY where we are supposed to be. But we must move forward. And the power to push each other forward is stronger than the power to push only ourselves. And that’s precisely what this December START NOW Workout Challenge is all about.
For the next 31 days, we ALL aim at those 22 workouts before 2013 hits. We will both end the year and start the year off right. So get your friends involved, tell your family and let’s move our booties together! Here’s how it works:
1) The GROUP WORKOUT LOG is a place to keep track of your workouts and get motivated by the group’s activity. 2) dailyMYB emails will motivate you to keep at it all month long. 3) The MoveYourBooty.org website dishes out constant motivation 24/7 - when you’re up, when you’re down, click over to MYB. 4) Emailing me at moveyourbootyblog@gmail.com is a place to ask questions, update me on how your month is going and give me feedback.
Just do your best this month. That’s all we can ask of each other. But spread the MYBlove and get your friends involved—it’s easier to hit your goal with group motivation. They can sign up by emailing YES to moveyourbootyblog@gmail.com — sign ups all week!
Keep at it, teamMYB! You rock!

dailyMYB: you CAN do exactly what you think you CAN’T.
Fear is intertwined with desire. You wouldn’t care so much that you CAN’T do something if you didn’t WANT to so badly. Think about it. So step up to it, face it head on and take a shot. Maybe start small to build up the courage to go big. Sometimes it’s just a small victory that’ll send us hunting after HUGE victories! So what are those OTHER things you think you can’t do, but want to? Start ticking them off the list and BOOM, all of a sudden you’re fishing for BIG dreams, goals and challenges. Marathon freak you out? Yoga class? Triathlon? If you start doing those OTHER things—going somewhere you thought you couldn’t, cooking that thing you’ve never tried before, setting up a meeting with someone who intimidates you—all of a sudden, you have the courage to aim higher, bigger and badder! Or flip it and think about your daily fitness fears that you conquer everyday and how they propel you further to face other life fears head on?? It’s more than just a workout. It’s fuel for accomplishment ALL DAY ALONG. Seize your fears and face them head on. Do PRECISELY what you think you can’t. Open that one door and an entire wing of doors will fly open. The power to do it all is inside you. It’s up to you to unlock it.

MOTIVATION: post RAGNAR thoughts:

Driving home from Ragnar you zoom out from worrying about times and maps and exchanges and which runner is running what and where is the headlamp is…and realize you just came together with a group of 12 people and conquered something pretty freaking awesome in the middle of nowhere. Some of us knew each other, some of us had never even met and we joined forces to accomplish a goal—a first time goal for many. Lots of “I hope that doesn’t happen” situations totally did happen (like “I hope it doesn’t rain THE ENTIRE TIME!” or “I hope one of our runners doesn’t get totally lost and end up on a totally different section of the course going in a totally other direction making us flirt with the possibility of coming in dead last!”). And even though those did happen, it was okay. We were okay! In fact, we were great!!

We spend much of our lives anxious about the possibility of problems and failure. But if you just join forces with those around you, do what you set out to, aim at your goal and work hard, you WILL get to that finish line.

Congrats to Rae, Rachel, Erica, Chrissy, Neeti, Chris, Michael, Roland, Doug, Craig and Eric! Amazing runners and teammates! Way to run!!

LET GOALS GET YOU THERE.
Goals are the voice that get you out of bed in the morning. Goals are what stop you from hitting the snooze button. Goals are what make you believe you can do something bigger than you’ve ever done before. Goals push you past your boundaries. Goals take you out of your comfort zone. Goals take you into totally unchartered territory. Goals know you can do it. Goals will you forward. All you have to do is set them. And stick to them. And they will reward you. Every time.
