Dear MYB,
Just a quick story I wanted to share. My friends and i kicked off September with the Awesome 80’s 10k run in Pasadena, CA. It was a great way to start the new month. In the process, we trained together, picked outfits together and cheered each other on throughout the race. It was my sister’s first 10k, ever. With busy schedules it seems running together has helped us make time for ourselves and each other. I look forward to continuing this fitness journey with a solid group of gals! Here’s a picture of our 80’s East Coast inspired outfits.

Keep up the awesome work, ladies!! You’re rockstars!!! And an inspiration to all of us…

xoxo,

MOTIVATION: shake off the schlub.

Remember a time when people dressed up to get on an airplane? Today we drag onto planes in our pajamas. Similarly, we schlep to the gym in our torn sweat pants and pit-stained tanks. Step it up, people! Take pride in your workout and your SWEATstyle! Find pieces that fit you and allow you to move accordingly. Invest in well-made basics you can rock anytime of day or night. Embrace pants and shirts that show off all the hard work you’re putting into your body, both inside and out. Never let “my workout clothes are dirty” stop you from going to the gym! Rock your own style and embrace your body! Suff at the gym or wherever you get your MYB on! Work it people! Show off all that hard work! #SWEATstyle

MOTIVATION: shout it proud.
There’s a lot of peer pressure going on out there. Pressure to be one way or another. To do something that’s considered cool or not cool by a group of people. But they’re all just followers. You do your own thing. You rock your own style. You show people what YOU think is cool and shake off whatever preconceived opinions they have about it. If you want to get your SWEATstyle on while other people want to do something else, you stick to your plan. You want to sign up for a race and work towards it while your friends think that’s dorky or uncool or whatever, shake it off. If you want to stick to the healthy habits you know are right, you hang on tight to those habits. You’re the cool one taking care of your body and staying healthy the right way. And in the long run, both your body and your real friends will thank you. This body is the only one you’ve got. So treat it right. And shout it proud so that others will follow in your example—and soon you’ll be the “cool” one. Trust. High-res

SWEATstyle: the you edition.
Your SWEATstyle is what kind of gear and style you rock while getting your sweat on.
What’s yours?
Big style, bright colors, all black, all white, all pink?! Do you rock head gear (like above), arm bands, big socks, bright shoes, cool sunglasses, short shorts, long patterned pants?? Depending on every kind of sport or workout, there’s always a specific kind of look people go for. Maybe you stick with that look. Maybe you rock a look all your own… you tell me!

MOTIVATION: a work in progress.
Check out this kickass writeup via bangsandabun about transformation (in both heart and skin), courage, and achievement. Because we all are just that — a work in progress. Click thru for the whole article and the whole kickass blog.
“Sometimes I had to stop and walk, sometimes it hurt, a lot of the time, I struggled, but I felt fantastic and suddenly, I thought it was important that people see me struggle and hurt and get a stitch, because this is what life is – we all struggle with things and we can’t always hide them and pretend they’re not happening. By me getting out there, being honest and letting people see my struggle, it lets them know that it’s OK for them to struggle too.”
